More Upcoming IP Conferences

Some IP conferences and seminars in the 2011-12 academic year, as reported by Madisonian:

15 Sept 2011 - Chicago-Kent Supreme Court IP Review: The 2011 Chicago-Kent SCIPR will review cases from the 2010 Term, preview cases from the 2011 Term, and discuss cert petitions to watch. Panelists include CAFC Judge O'Malley; PTO Director David Kappos; Professors Rochelle Dreyfuss, Mark Lemley, Edward Lee, and David Schwartz; and partners from a number of major law firms. Registration is only $15 for outside academics and students.

23 Sept 2011 - IP Seminar on Assets, Licensing, and Pooling at Nevada - Las Vegas: "Join the William S. Boyd School of Law and technology leader IGT in an exciting program devoted to cutting-edge issues in intellectual property law. Attorneys and academics specializing in IP will discuss hot topics in the commercialization of IP, including sessions devoted to pooling and licensing of patent assets, as well as recent developments in patent, copyright, and trademark law. The luncheon speaker will be special guest Bernie Knight, General Counsel of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, who will offer a glimpse of the inside dynamics of the patent reform legislation that is pending before the United States Congress. Continue the day’s discussion at the evening cocktail reception."

14 Oct 2011 - Defensive Patent Strategies at Santa Clara: Defense 2.0: New Strategies for Reducing Patent Risk, cosponsored by Santa Clara and BCLT, will open registration soon. "For many years, technology companies have accumulated large patent portfolios on the belief that doing so increases their freedom to operate. This strategy has been challenged by the growth of patent-assertion entities and the secondary markets for patents. As a result, technology companies need to rethink how they maintain their freedom to devise and launch innovative new products and services in light of their patent risks. This conference will bring together professors, lawyers and other patent experts to understand the evolving patent ecosystem and explore new defensive strategies for navigating the new patent landscape, in the US and abroad."

10-11 Feb 2012 - WIPIP at Houston: The University of Houston Law Center will host the 2012 Works-in-Progress Intellectual Property Colloquium. "WIPIP offers an opportunity for intellectual property law scholars to present their works-in-progress and get early feedback from their colleagues. Faculty members are welcome to present, but presentation is not required. Non-faculty may also get a chance to present if there are sufficient slots available." Register by Dec. 17.

30-31 March 2012 - Intellectual Property Scholars Roundtable at Drake: There doesn't appear to be a website for the 2012 roundtable yet, but information from the 2011 roundtable is available here.
